Genre Research Blog
There are many types of movie genres. From action to romance, for this blog I will be talking about mystery. Personally, the genre of mystery is the most interesting. With a movie based on mystery comes a whole plot based around a singular question and answer. Usually, every scene in a movie based on mystery can be a major role in the plot.
An example of a movie based on mystery is The Knowing, starring Nicholas Cage. I find this movie in particular interesting because every detail lead to the conclusion. The movie is based around this series of numbers put into a time capsule where it was later dug up. The student who dug it up had a father who was a professor, the father soon realized the numbers were dates and coordinates of major world events. I won’t spoil the rest, but the details between the events in the summary I just gave you all lead to the conclusion.
Mystery is one of those genres a movie can bank on to become a box office hit. The suspense that is created when a viewer is trying to figure out the end of a series of events is unlike any other. Another reason mystery is a great genre is due to its ability to make movies into sequels. A good producer can easily make the “conclusion” just another part of an even broader answer. People are drawn to mysteries and the idea of finding out the answers.
Mysteries are so popular amongst people, that most media dealing with mystery are series. This shows the ability a mystery has on keeping a person hooked. All of the best and most popular series are mysteries. From “Forensic Files” to “You”. Mystery is what keeps people in suspense and attentive.
