Romance, a genre that attracts all. Movies since the beginning of film making, have focused on this core concept. In real life, romance involves every single person that has and will exist. This fact alone makes it an attraction in film. Romance brings the highest of highs and lowest of lows, this is the same in film.

Given the emotions people feel from real life romance and relationships, film has a way of exploiting this. Many of the most watched films have been under the genre of romance. Films will use people’s feelings in their real life relationships and broadcast them in a fictional film, captivating the watchers attention. An example of this is heartbreak. Almost everyone has experienced a heartbreak of some sort in their lifetime, this creates a connection between person and film.

Another way film exploits people’s emotions in terms of romance is cheating. Often in romance movies, the main character is involved in cheating. Not only does this create a love triangle which viewers are captivated by, it also creates a connection. Everyone has been subject to cheating whether it was them cheating on a partner, vice versa, or hearing about cheating through friends or family. This harsh topic brings some of the most heart wrenching emotion with it, and this is why it works so well in film.

Overall romance is a top 3 genre. The fact that everyone can relate to a romantic story in one way or another makes it so captivating. Film makers will forever exploit the feelings of romance for their production to succeed. Without romance, many movies, songs, and books would not be in existence. The lack of romance would leave viewers and listeners alike without an outlet for their deeper romantic emotions.
